Project Overview :

The University of Houston Football Operations Facility, located at 3700 Cullen Boulevard, is a state-of-the-art complex designed to elevate the university’s football program. It features advanced training spaces, locker rooms, meeting areas, and nutrition centers—serving not only athletes but also as a modern hub for fans and alumni engagement.

Structures Online (SOL) played a crucial role in the project’s steel detailing, providing high-precision 3D modeling and comprehensive shop drawings that supported both architectural intent and construction efficiency. Our detailing scope extended beyond the main structure to include intricate precast connections, specialty stairs, and one of the most technically demanding scoreboard structures in the region.

Scope of Work : 

Anchor Bolt Coupling System
An innovative coupling solution was executed to integrate new anchor bolts with pre-existing foundations, ensuring alignment accuracy and structural continuity throughout the base framing.

Scoreboard Detailing
A 280-foot-wide scoreboard structure was modeled and detailed with precision to meet both architectural design and structural performance requirements, accommodating heavy loading and wind conditions.

Raker Beam Assemblies
Raker beams were detailed to support tiered seating and distribute loads efficiently, maintaining stability under variable dynamic conditions typical of sports facilities.

Plyometric Stair Systems
Custom plyometric stairs with variable riser heights were designed to balance functionality, user comfort, and architectural aesthetics.

Cantilever Precast Tub Connection
Complex cantilevered precast tub connections were detailed to handle challenging moment and shear forces while maintaining alignment with the concrete interface.

Beam-to-Column Connections
Engineered shear end plate and angle connections were utilized for the primary framing, incorporating secondary beams to enhance load path redundancy.

Multi-Member Gusseted Joint
A multi-member junction connecting beams, bracings, and a tension rod was detailed using stiffened gusset plates and bolted assemblies, ensuring proper load transfer and rigidity at high-stress nodes.
