Project Description
Springdale Green Campus
Location: Austin, Texas
Client: Patriot
Project Type: Commercial - Community Building
Scope: Steel Detailing for Key Structural Components
Project Overview
The Springdale Green Campus is a landmark project in sustainable architecture, merging eco-conscious infrastructure with advanced educational and community spaces. Designed with a strong emphasis on green innovation, the campus includes educational buildings, collaborative zones, and recreational features such as green roofs and solar panels, creating a high-tech, environmentally responsive learning environment.
Scope of Work
The entire project was divided into two major components:
1. The Broadwalk Area
This outdoor pedestrian and recreation zone required custom detailing due to its extensive use of twisted structural elements and landscape-integrated features.
Yoga Deck – Seating & Lighting Integration
Structures Online delivered precise detailing for custom railings, where 3'-6" on-center lighting holes were embedded into the mega bench area railings.
Partial data on work points and curvature was supplemented by interpreting pictorial representations from landscape drawings—exemplifying the team's adaptive modeling skills.Curved Broadwalk – Twisted Beams & Framing
The long broadwalk is composed of interconnected smaller frames, each following a distinct curvature. Structures Online used AutoCAD and geometric modeling to determine accurate work points for each curve. The complexity of assembling these pre-twisted frames demanded tight tolerances and precision fabrication, all achieved through advanced 3D detailing.Birdblind Area – Dual Curve Detailing
In this elevated nature observatory area, both beams and railings followed separate radii, requiring the use of dual work points in shop drawings to ensure correct spatial alignment and field fit-up.
2. Main Educational & Community Buildings (Buildings A, B, C)
These multi-story structures serve as the core educational and administrative blocks. Structures Online handled detailing for:
Curved Beams & Complex Roof Steel
Elevator Supports & Penthouse Framing
Ladders & Safety Rails to meet OSHA compliance
Project Highlight
Monumental Staircase (Buildings A–C)
The continuous stair system rises from Level 1 to the rooftop, carefully detailed to comply with OSHA safety standards while also matching the architectural intent. Its smooth transitions, and integrated handrail support required an intricate balance of design and code.
Project Outcome
From curved beams to twisted frames, Structures Online’s expertise in steel detailing played a pivotal role in turning vision into reality. Their scope included:
· Welded, bolted, and riveted connections designed for field efficiency
· BIM coordination to align steel with architectural features
· Adherence to industry codes and LEED-compliant practices
· Seamless collaboration with fabricators, architects, and GC teams
Their involvement ensured that every frame, stair, and railing was precisely modelled and fabrication-ready, allowing the project to maintain its modern aesthetic and sustainability goals.
