Project Description
Sossaman Business Campus
Location: Arizona
Client: S&H Steel
Project Type: Commercial – Business / Industrial Campus
Scope: Steel Detailing for Miscellaneous Steel, Access Systems, Structural Frames, and Weld-Intensive Connections
Project Overview
The Sossaman Business Campus is a commercial development designed to support industrial and business operations through robust structural framing and integrated access systems. The project includes a variety of miscellaneous steel assemblies that demanded precise detailing, safety compliance, and constructability-driven coordination.
Structures Online (SOL) was responsible for the detailed modeling and steel detailing of access components, weld-critical structural frames, and overhead support assemblies. The scope required careful coordination to ensure fabrication accuracy, erection stability, and compliance with industrial safety standards.
Scope of Work
Vertical Access Ladder with Safety Cage
A vertical access ladder system with a cylindrical safety cage was fully modeled to comply with industrial fall-protection standards. The assembly includes continuous side rails, uniformly spaced rungs, intermediate rest platforms, and cage hoops. All brackets, splice points, and anchorage interfaces were coordinated to ensure obstruction-free installation and fabrication-friendly segmentation.
Hinged Gate Assembly
This assembly represents a hinged gate system supported between structural posts. The central hinge mechanism, locking provisions, and post-to-gate connections were detailed to ensure smooth operation, proper alignment, and ease of onsite installation.
Weld-Intensive Supporting Frame
The supporting frame in this area was detailed with continuity plates and Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) welds. Beam-to-beam and beam-to-column interfaces were modeled with precise weld preparation geometry to meet fabrication and inspection standards while maintaining erection tolerances and access for site welding.
Overhead Support Frame with Lateral Bracing
This assembly includes an overhead support frame extending between column lines, incorporating multi-member built-up beams and lateral bracing components. Cross frames and bracing members were coordinated to enhance stiffness and control deflection, with all interfaces detailed for erection stability and fabrication-friendly segmentation.
Key Deliverables
Detailed 3D models for miscellaneous steel and access assemblies.
Shop and fabrication drawings for ladder systems, gates, support frames, and bracing.
Weld-focused detailing including CJP weld preparations and inspection-ready geometries.
Erection-friendly assemblies coordinated for safety and installation efficiency.
Project Outcome
Through meticulous modeling and coordination, Structures Online contributed to the successful execution of the Sossaman Business Campus, delivering safe, durable, and constructible miscellaneous steel systems. The project highlights SOL’s expertise in industrial access detailing, weld-critical framing, and complex miscellaneous steel coordination within large commercial developments.
