Project Description
Shaw Plant 78 Warehouse
Location: Aiken,SC
Client: Owen Steel
Project Type: Industrial – Warehouse Facility
Scope: Steel Detailing for Braced Frames, Column Splice Connections, and Miscellaneous Steel Components
Project Overview
The Shaw Plant 78 Warehouse is an industrial facility designed to support large-scale storage and logistics operations. The project required comprehensive steel detailing for structural framing, braced systems, and integrated access components to ensure stability and operational functionality throughout the facility.
Structures Online (SOL) delivered detailed 3D modeling and fabrication-ready drawings for the project, focusing on braced frame systems, column splice connections, and miscellaneous structural components. Precise coordination across structural members and access elements was essential to ensure constructability, fabrication efficiency, and smooth site installation.
Scope of Work
Braced Frame Connections:
Various brace frame connections were detailed throughout the structure, with diagonal bracing members framing into beams and columns across multiple bays. Each connection was modeled with coordinated gusset plates, end plates, and bolted interfaces tailored to the brace orientation and framing conditions. The detailing ensured proper alignment, clash-free integration with adjacent structural members, and fabrication-ready connection geometry.
Column Splice Connections:
The project included column splice connections designed to join upper and lower column segments using bolted plate assemblies. Each splice incorporated flange splice plates and web splice plates with precise bolt patterns, edge distances, and plate thicknesses. Erection tolerances were carefully coordinated to maintain column continuity and alignment during site installation.
Miscellaneous Steel Components:
The scope also included detailed modeling of miscellaneous steel assemblies integrated with the main structural framing. These components included access walkways with guardrails, intermediate platforms, stair transitions, and handrail systems. Each element was modeled with accurate geometry—covering railing heights, tread dimensions, landing layouts, and connection interfaces with surrounding beams and columns. Special attention was given to maintaining clearances and avoiding clashes with the primary structural members.
Key Deliverables
Detailed 3D structural steel models for braced frames, splice connections, and access assemblies.
Shop and fabrication drawings for bracing systems, column splices, and miscellaneous steel components.
Coordinated connection detailing ensuring alignment, clearance, and fabrication readiness.
Erection-friendly assemblies supporting efficient installation on site.
Project Outcome
Through precise modeling and coordinated detailing, Structures Online supported the successful delivery of the Shaw Plant 78 Warehouse. The project demonstrates SOL’s expertise in industrial steel detailing, braced frame systems, and miscellaneous steel integration, ensuring a structurally sound and constructible solution tailored to the operational needs of modern warehouse facilities.
