San Antonio State Hospital is a psychiatric healthcare facility located in New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, Texas providing crucial services for patients with mental health disorders. It is one of ten state mental health facilities within the Health and Specialty Care System. It offers both long-term and short-term residential care, as well as crisis intervention.
The current project involves the construction of a new 469,974 gross square feet, 3-story replacement hospital. The design features inpatient units situated on either side of a central north-south spine, with shared therapy spaces and building support services located within the spine between the units.
In the steel detailing phase, columns are carefully designed to offer strong vertical support and securely anchored to the foundation. Similarly, beams are detailed to evenly distribute weight across the building, making it stable and capable of bearing heavy loads effectively. These details ensure the hospital's structure is robust and can support its operations reliably.
