Project Description

NWMC – East Tucson

Location: Tucson, Arizona
General Contractor: MJ Harris
Project Type: Institutional – Healthcare Facility
Scope: Steel Detailing for Structural Framing, Connections, and Access Systems

Project Overview

The NWMC – East Tucson project involved comprehensive steel detailing for a healthcare facility requiring precise coordination between primary structural framing and supporting systems. The project demanded careful modeling of edge conditions, connection interfaces, and access components to ensure constructability and seamless integration across the structure.

Structures Online (SOL) developed detailed 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings, focusing on connection accuracy, alignment, and coordination in congested framing zones to support efficient fabrication and installation.

Scope of Work

  • Integrated Primary and Peripheral Framing : Detailed coordination of primary structural members along with peripheral framing systems. Edge beams and side-connected members were positioned to ensure continuity with the overall structural grid.

  • Edge Beam Interface Detailing : Edge conditions where secondary framing connects into primary girders were carefully detailed. End connections and clearances were modeled to ensure proper fit-up and erection.

  • Beam-to-Column and Beam-to-Beam Connections : All connections were modeled with end plates, bolt layouts, and offsets. Member end preparations and alignment were coordinated to avoid clashes and ensure fabrication accuracy.

  • Staircase Access System : A top-level access stair system was detailed including stringers, treads, landing beams, and connections, ensuring proper geometry and alignment between elevations.

  • Congested Node Connections : Highly congested areas with multiple intersecting members were detailed with precise bolt placement, offsets, and connection hierarchy to maintain constructability.

  • Miscellaneous Steel Components : Various miscellaneous steel elements such as support members and secondary framing were detailed to integrate seamlessly with the primary structure.

Key Deliverables

• Detailed 3D structural models

• Shop and fabrication drawings

• Connection detailing for complex nodes

• Coordinated access and miscellaneous steel systems

Project Outcome

Structures Online contributed to the successful execution of the NWMC – East Tucson project through precise detailing and coordinated modeling. The project highlights SOL’s expertise in managing complex healthcare structures, ensuring accurate, constructible, and efficient steel detailing solutions.
