Scope: Steel Detailing for Structural Framework and Complex Connections


Project Overview


The KC Current Stadium is the first purpose-built stadium for a professional women’s soccer team in the United States. Strategically located along the Missouri River in Kansas City, Missouri, the stadium is designed to seat over 11,500 fans with state-of-the-art amenities tailored for athletes and fans alike.


The architectural vision emphasizes riverfront integration, community accessibility, and structural efficiency. The bowl design, steep seating angles, and canopy structure required high-precision steel detailing for seamless execution.


Structures Online was entrusted with the detailing of critical steel connections and assemblies that form the backbone of the stadium’s geometry and functionality.


Scope of Work

Our detailing scope included:

  • Diagonal Brace Connections

    • Multiple braces converging at junctions with gusset plates for load transfer

    • Integration at points where horizontal beams and sloped seating beams intersect

    • Complex angle alignments to maintain stadium geometry

  • Complex Connection Junctions

  • A. Continuous Beams & Columns

    • Moment connections between continuous beams and columns above/below

    • Braces attached via gusset plates

  • B. Brace Frame Connections

    • Beams meeting at different angles and slopes, joined by moment connections

  • C. Beam-to-Beam & Beam-to-Brace Assemblies

    • Full-depth beam-to-beam connections with stub beams for sloped members

    • Brace integration through gusset plates

  • Fabrication-ready detailing for complex bracing and moment frame assemblies

  • 3D modeling for accurate sloped and multi-angled member integration

  • Connection detailing with gusset plate geometry to meet structural loads
