Project Overview

The Iron Mountain AZP2 project involved comprehensive steel detailing for a mission-critical data center designed to support secure, high-performance digital infrastructure. The facility required precise coordination of structural framing, access systems, and support components to ensure constructability, fabrication efficiency, and long-term operational reliability.


Structures Online (SOL) provided steel detailing services for approximately 372 tons of structural steel, delivering detailed 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings. The project demanded close coordination between primary framing systems, secondary steel components, and access infrastructure to support efficient fabrication and seamless field installation.


Scope of Work


Primary Structural Framework :

The primary structural system consists of columns, girders, and heavy framing members forming the core of the facility. Member alignment, elevations, and connection interfaces were carefully coordinated to ensure structural integrity, fabrication accuracy, and efficient erection.


Access Systems and Support Infrastructure :

The project included multi-level stair systems, access platforms, and supporting structural elements required for safe facility operations and equipment access. These components were integrated with the primary framing system to maintain constructability and operational efficiency.


Connection Detailing for Fabrication :

All structural connections were developed with detailed bolt layouts, weld specifications, and connection assemblies to support fabrication accuracy and efficient field installation. Secondary framing interfaces were fully coordinated to minimize field modifications and improve erection sequencing.


Advanced Modeling and Project Coordination :

A fully coordinated 3D model was developed using Tekla Structures to enhance visualization, improve interdisciplinary coordination, and reduce the potential for field conflicts. The integrated modeling approach facilitated effective collaboration between the detailing, fabrication, and construction teams throughout the project.
