Project Description

Gilbert Arizona Temple

Location: Gilbert, Arizona

Client: S&H

Project Type: Religious & Cultural – Temple Construction

Scope: Steel Detailing for Structural Framework, Brace Connections, and Catwalk Systems

Project Overview

The Gilbert Arizona Temple is one of the largest temples built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the state of Arizona. Situated in the growing community of Gilbert, this architectural landmark combines cultural significance with intricate structural design.

The temple’s construction required high-precision steel detailing to achieve the complex geometry, aesthetic demands, and long-term durability expected of such a sacred structure. Structures Online played a critical role by detailing connections and assemblies that supported both architectural expression and structural performance.

Scope of Work

Our detailing scope included the following critical components:

Figure 1 – Column-Beam Connection

o Plates attached to the ends of HSS beams act as end plates, providing additional weld surface area.

o These connections were critical for load transfer and assembly accuracy.

· Figure 2 – Splicing of Brace Beams

o Brace beams were spliced with precise alignment requirements.

o Detailing addressed fabrication efficiency and seamless field erection.

· Figure 3 – Complex Connection Junction

o Multiple beams, braces, and columns converged at a single point.

o Required precise cutting and welding instructions to ensure fit-up.

o Replicated in both shop and part drawings for fabrication accuracy.

· Figure 4 – Catwalk Frame

o Frames fabricated from angles and plates, suspended from beams.

o Supported by bolted angle connections to both beams and frames.

o Repeated across multiple locations within the temple framework.

Key Deliverables

· Fabrication drawings, erection plans, and CNC data for complex junctions

· Detailed cutting and welding instructions for congested connection zones

· 3D modeling for accurate replication of catwalk systems and brace splices

· Coordination to ensure architectural requirements aligned with structural integrity

Project Outcome

Through precise steel detailing, Structures Online contributed to the successful completion of the Gilbert Arizona Temple, ensuring that the structure reflects both spiritual significance and engineering excellence. Our team’s work supported fabrication accuracy, field efficiency, and the long-term durability of this iconic landmark.
