Project Overview
The George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), covering over 10,000 acres and located 23 miles north of downtown Houston, ranks as the 10th busiest airport in the U.S. Serving over 41 million passengers annually and connecting to nearly 185 destinations, IAH launched a large-scale renovation in 2019 to boost global connectivity and operational excellence.
Structures Online was entrusted with the steel detailing scope for this major infrastructure upgrade.
Scope of Work
Our detailing scope included:
• Core Steel Elements:
o Anchor bolts, embeds, and structural steel
• Complex Assemblies:
o A bridge and a pedestrian bridge
o Stair towers, elevator towers, and car park ramps
o Roof access ladders and standard ladders
o Glass rails and built-up plate girders
o Rolled pipe structures and pipe Y-columns
o Built-up columns, beams, and girders
• Project Highlight:
o Iconic steel leaf trusses used in the Delivery Service building
o Featured complex 2D slopes and geometric challenges

• 100+ shop drawings per truss to ensure clarity and accuracy

• Resolution and coordination of RDs for each assembly
• Axonometric detailing of connections and various assembly scenarios
• Cruciform connections for strength in key structural zones
• Dummy Y-columns for truss integration in warehouse areas
• Precision purlin placement on curved trusses
