Project Overview
The Churchill Downs project involved advanced steel detailing for a landmark grandstand structure, characterized by a complex, multi-tier steel framework supporting large spectator capacities and iconic architectural features. The project required a high level of precision to integrate new structural systems while aligning with the historic character of the venue.
Structures Online (SOL) developed detailed 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings, focusing on large-span structural systems, connection accuracy, and coordination across dense framing zones to ensure efficient fabrication and erection.
Scope of Work
Primary Structural Framework : Multi-tier structural system consisting of vertical columns, beams, and girders arranged in a coordinated grid with precise alignment.
Grandstand Roof and Canopy Truss System : Long-span trusses and cantilevered canopy sections modeled with accurate geometry and member inclinations.
Secondary Framing and Seating Tier Support : Closely spaced beams supporting seating tiers with coordinated connection interfaces.
Bracing and Connection Systems : Diagonal bracing systems detailed with accurate member orientation and connection interfaces.
High-Density Node Detailing : Complex connection zones modeled with detailed bolted and welded assemblies to reduce congestion.
Staircase and Access Systems : Multi-storey stair systems modeled with accurate elevations and integrated access paths.
