Project Description

Acadia Behavioral Health Hospital – Mesa, Arizona

Location : Mesa, Arizona
Client : S&H Steel
General Contractor : Adolfson & Peterson Construction
Project Type : Institutional – Healthcare Facility
Scope : Steel Detailing for Structural Framing, Floor Systems, Access Infrastructure, and Connection Assemblies (315 Tons)

Project Overview

The Acadia Behavioral Health Hospital project involved comprehensive steel detailing for a modern healthcare facility designed to support specialized behavioral health services. The project required precise coordination of structural framing, floor systems, and access infrastructure to meet the demanding standards of healthcare construction while ensuring constructability and fabrication efficiency.

Structures Online (SOL) provided steel detailing services for approximately 315 tons of structural steel, delivering fully coordinated 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings. Close coordination between structural, architectural, and MEP systems ensured accurate detailing, minimized field conflicts, and supported efficient fabrication and installation.

Scope of Work

Primary Structural Framework :

The primary structural system consists of columns, beams, and floor framing supporting the hospital's multi-level layout. Member alignment, elevations, and connection interfaces were carefully coordinated to ensure structural integrity, fabrication accuracy, and efficient erection.

Elevated Platforms and Access Systems :

The project included elevated platforms, access walkways, ladders, and guardrail systems that provide safe access to mechanical and service areas. These components were fully integrated with the primary structural framework to maintain accessibility and constructability.

Floor Framing and Miscellaneous Steel :

An extensive floor framing system was developed with detailed beam layouts, framed openings, and miscellaneous steel components. Careful coordination ensured compatibility with architectural and MEP systems while supporting efficient fabrication and installation.

Connection Detailing for Fabrication :

All structural connections—including bolted and welded assemblies, end plates, and supporting connection elements—were detailed to fabrication-level accuracy. The connection design was coordinated to optimize shop fabrication, simplify field erection, and maintain the quality standards required for a healthcare facility.

Key Deliverables

  • Detailed 3D structural modelsfor all framing systems

  • Shop and fabrication drawings for primary and secondary steel members

  • Coordinated detailing for floor systems, access infrastructure, and miscellaneous steel

  • Fabrication-ready models supporting efficient erection and installation

Project Outcome

Through precise modeling and coordinated detailing, Structures Online contributed to the successful execution of the Acadia Behavioral Health Hospital project. The project highlights SOL's expertise in healthcare facility steel detailing, multi-disciplinary coordination, and constructability-driven modeling, delivering a reliable and fabrication-ready structural solution.
